What happens to NBA Divisions?

Now that the Sonics have moved out from Seattle to Oklahoma will the NBA have to switch around divisions? Oklahoma isn't exactly in the Northwest and the rest of the Division teams will have to travel farther to ge to the Sonic's new stadium. Will the switch up the divisions maybe to make them more even ( both skill and travel wise)

They have a dangerous frontline (Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom), an even more dangerous backcourt (Derek Fisher, Kobe Bryant) and a scary good bench (Farmar, Vujacic, etc). As of right now at this moment, yes they are the best team in the NBA. For a long time I thought it was the Pistons because of their group and now with Flip Saunders going to his bench, but this Lakers team can't be touched right now.

Their whole team is great. Offensively they can attack you from all points. They are great at the perimeter game, they can beat you down low, and their passing is just phenominal. Defensively they got a lot better. They may not be Celtics or Pistons good, but they do put a lot of pressure on you. And their bench is the deepest in the league without a doubt. Their second unit is fast, relentless, and actually better defensively.

The scary thing: Andrew Bynum is still out, and this team hasn't skipped a beat in his absense. Imagine how good they will be when he get's back. Now I know critics will "say oh he'll need to get back into playing shape, he needs to get adjusted with Pau and Odom etc.." That's bullshit. Pau came in, and 3 games into was already putting up 20+ points and nearly 10 rebounds with Odom getting double doubles easily. Watch out.

First of all, you have to play in college, no matter what. Second, if you are NBA quality, D-1 schools will be scouting you. You should go to a D-1 school if you really are NBA quality. If you don't you have to absolutely tear up D-2. 90% of people who actually play in the NBA went to acollegethat had a good basketball team when they were there.

I know Rasheed for instance can get out of control sometimes, but the other day, 'Sheed simply motioned for a "and one" after he thought he was fouled, while running down to the other end of the court, with his back to the ref, and got a technical foul for that! They're most certainly taking the fun and emotion out of the game. Pretty soon, you won't even be able to raise a finger to the sky after a made basket, it's just sad!
I think they went a little to far. I think that if a player complains because he is called for a foul, then yes he should get called for a Technical foul. The reason they made this rule is so the game doesn't get slowed down. Also it would be awsome to see other leagues do the same. I would love to see the NFL use this rule so when a player asks for a flag, then the ref should throw one, on the player moitioning for one, (ex. WR's complain when they think there was defencive pass inerferance.) It would be a 15 yard penilty. I like this new no tolerance policy simply because players were always argueing with the ref's, but the refs never changed their minds, so it was slowing the game down. I haven't seen any coaches yet get one, and that is my biggest concern, they do most of the arguing.

I think the rule was made because a lot of players get a lil out of hand with the refs. cussin them and tellin them they can suck their *****... Yea I've sat close enuf to hear these things said.

If they were callin those instead of every petty lil thing it would be better. I don't think it's takin action out of the came, it has made the players check themselves a lil more though.

After the fights in the stands, and nutt grabbin on the court last year, I think it's a fair rule, but sometimes the refs make some petty calls...
all i can say is that david stern needs to lighten up on that stupid new rule or he's going to here from the players' union sooner or later...

Nothing is impossible, just odd. I recomend you that you start play guard or something like that because even when you might be the tallest of your friends or group this will not be the case at NBA.
It's not a matter of race. You have to be better than "pretty good." You have to be the best player you have ever played with at every level. The odds of making the NBA are huge, and they aren't in your favor. You going into the Navy won't help. They will want people who will go tocollegeright away and produce on a NCAA Division I program (unless they are David Robinson or something). If you were getting a lot ofcollegescholarship offers, you might have a shot. Since you didn't mention that, I have to assume you are more likely to have a career in the Navy than playing hoops.

Depends how you do in college. The best players in the nation going tocollegelook like they are pro bound but a lot of the time they are jsut bust. Just practice hard and play all out during the games and you might get attention. Navy is a big school, not known for basketball though, and well, at least it a known school.

there is no defense in the NBA nor is there any defense FOR the NBA. It is to basketball what the WWE is to wrestling, its just an exhibition and its purpose is to sell products. While the NBA had merit in the days of Magic, Bird, Elgin Baylor, etc. it is really nothing much like a sport anymore and has lost its major television contracts and has accept pretty much whatever TNT or the Outdoor network or whomever will pay them to televise. BTW: to the guy who said AK was a huge reason the jazz got off to a good start, the big reason Utah has improved so much is Boozer. Boozer's play is the difference for Utah, they even went 5-0 early in the year without AK and did not miss a beat.

Its about to be the playoffs so thats why this question is burning in my head. I watched the playoffs and finals every year and I think last year was a farce. I stopped counting after they put Dwayne Wade on the free throw line 20 times. In a lot of those games his free throws accounted for 50% of his points. And the Mavs weren't even touching him. I'm not a Heat or Mavericks fan, so I have no bias, but I just thought it was ridiculous. I feel sorry for Mark Cuban. His team never stood a chance! Against the Heat yes....but not against the Heat and the referees. It was an impossible mission. Now, true, superstars always get there fair share of "free" calls, but the NBA went WAY TO FAR in 2006. Thats my spin, whats yours?

Well, since you already gave away your opinion, I'm sure I won't get the best answer.

I was rooting heavily for the Mavericks. I love watching Dirk and gang play. And, I do think a LOT of calls went in favor of the Heat (as is often the case when Dwayne Wade's playing). However, I won't go so far as to say the league "gave" them the title. Face it...the Mavs choked. Wade became unstoppable and took over. I'm sure Dirk's going to be very hungry this offseason.

The NBA needs playoff series to go 6 or 7 games to generate revenue. I think that they saw the Mavs go up 2 - 0 and freaked out a bit. They started making some dumb calls, probably wanted to extend this series, maybe even get a game 7 out of it, but the truth is, by doing that, they also give the Heat all the momentum and the pressure goes back to the Mavs. It also forces the Mavs to basically tip toe around Wade because they know that if they breathe on him the wrong way, he gets 2 ft's. It's total bullsh*t! I'm not a Mavs fan either, but the refs influence the game more than they know. It's not just a series of bad calls, it changes everything when they do sh*t like that. Mavs should've won last year, they'll make up for it this year. The Heat won't even make the finals, Pistons/Mavs this year with the Mavs winning in 6 games.
I do Dwayne Wade averaged like fifty free throws a game and the other teams would get fouled really easily and there's no call. Some of those bad calls cost the Dallas Mavericks the game. I am a pistons fan and that is why I hate the Heat so much too.

basketball is a part of hip hop culture and urban culture. you'll rarely find a city these days that doesnt have more than its fair share of basketball hoops, outdoor courts, etc. because basketball is so entrenched in hip hop and urban culture, which happens to be predominantly black, you get a large percentage of blacks who aspire to, and eventually reach, the NBA. not to say that whites dont, but it's not rooted the same way as it is in the cities and in hip hop.

In the 1920s and 30s, Jewish people were the dominant ethnic group in the inner cities, and they also dominated basketball. It was said at the time that people thought that Jewish babies were born with a basketball in their hands, much the same as was said about blacks several decades later.

Starting in the 1940s and 50s, much of the Jewish population was able to leave the inner cities and ghettos and move into more suburban areas, and blacks from the south began to occupy the inner cities... blacks have dominated basketball since then.

Not much room for playing baseball or football in the inner cities, but there are tons of basketball courts.

But again, it has nothing to do with simply being black. It has to do with growing up in an area where basketball is played more than any other sport, and often is the ONLY sport played.

I have two favorite. (sorry it is too hard to choose I think) They are Rip Hamilton and Lebron James. With Hamilton I have watched him grow since being drafted by MJ and the Wizards and growing by the side of Jordan and then coming to my favorite team in the Pistons. MJ. 32 ppg, 12 apg and all this with NO SHAQ. Jordan did all his work with no threat in the middle. Think about that for a second...the defense had NO REASON to back off and watch the middle. for those who think D Wade will be as good as MJ at any point just look at his teams record with no Shaq this year. Sub .500 and middle of the road. Never mind that in the 90's the defenses were MUCH more physical, now if you breathe to close to the likes of Wade or LeBron or Kobe it's a foul.

d-wades was betta because he put on a show in the last 4 games. i know mj hit a game winna put d-wades performance was way betta than mj's. he averaged 30 something points and most of them were clutch. he proved everyone wrong that the mavs were the best team in the nba and that the heat wont come back and win da nba finals.
James....you forgot to mention a couple more details.

In game one, Jordan MISSED a 15 foot shot at the end of the game that would have won it for Chicago. I can't remember if ESPN televised that or not. lol

Also, anyone who saw that series will remember how Magic kept posting up on Jordan and absolutely dominating him in game one . Then, after putting 3 quick fouls on Jordan in the first half of game two , Phil Jackson decided to move Pippen over to guard Magic and put Jordan (who was first team all-defense) on James Worthy, WHO WAS PLAYING WITH A SPRAINED ANKLE . So needless to say, Jordan didn't have to expend a whole lot of energy on the defensive end.

That proved to be the turning point, because Pippen did an excellent job on Magic. But of course, he doesn't get credit because he doesn't have his own line of shoes.

Also, in game five, Worthy and Byron Scott, the #2 and #3 leading scorers for L.A. were injured and had to sit out. The Lakers stood no chance without them.

And it was not Jordan, but John Paxson that clinched it for the Bulls, scoring 10 points at the end of game 5 to seal the victory.

Yes, Jordan had a great series, but it was definitely a team effort.

And I'm sure that Nike spends a huge amount of money advertising in Sports Illustrated, so I'm not surprised that SI returned the favor by naming him "Sportsman" of the Year. Big Deal.
